Tadka

50 grams onion

60 mL sunflower oil

2 cloves garlic

2 dried red shilies

1 tsp cumin seeds

Rice (dish)

Preparation

Daal

Boil 1,5 L of water together with the rinsed beans. Cut the onion in small half rings. When the water is boiling add the onion, turmeric, kashmiri chili powder, salt and pepper. Give the beans a mix and let it undisturbed cook for 45 minutes. Check around end time if there is still some water in the pot. After beans are finished cooking (check if they are soft) remove the excess water, if its still there.

You can keep the daal warm by putting it on a plate with lid in oven 120°C.

Tadka

Befor starting, cut the onion in small half rings, thinly slice the garlic. In a small pan heat up 60 mL off sunflower oil on medium high heat. When the oil is warm add the onions. Just before the onions are brown add the garlic, when this started to change colour add the cumin seeds and dried chilies. Fry until you start to smell the cumin seeds, don't burn the onion and garlic.

Pour the tadka over the daal and serve.

When you want the tadka to be reaready on same time as daal start making it 15 minutes before the daal is finished.
